Welcome to Koper! Bur first – how will you get there? As we strive for the FIG World Challenge Cup to be as sustainable as possible, we propose you use any of the following options! We are committed to making sure we prevent the creation of new, unncessary footprint instead of offsetting its negative effects later on.
Since we know riding a car will be the most popular option – make sure you’re not the only passenger in the car! Car sharing is a great way to make sure less additional carboon footprint is created, while also enjoying the company along the way. Because remember: it’s not about the journey or the destination, it’s all about the company! You can take the bus! If your starting point is Ljubljana, you can check the schedules: HERE for Thursday, HERE for Friday, HERE for Saturday and HERE for Sunday. One of the sustainable options is taking the train. You can find the schedules of the train rides for the Ljubljana – Koper destination: HERE for Thursday, HERE for Friday, HERE for Saturday and HERE for Sunday. The train ride gives you plenty of time and comfort to take back and enjoy a good book or watch a movie before the excitement of the gymnastics competition starts.Last, but absolutely not the least, or in our experience, the least common – ride the bicycle! Slovenian Gymnastics Federation’s Head of Men’s Artistic Gymnastic Sebastijan Piletič has made his trip from Ljubljana to Koper by bicycle more than once! His luggage traveled with the team, but he, as a passionate bicycler, has made this trip many times before. Even though some of us swear that the road from Ljubljana to the Slovenian coast has a decreasing slope he will fight you tooth and nail that is not the case.
Additionally, we strongly support you make a day out of it! The 18th World Challege Cup will “only” last a couple of hours. Since you have already made trip to the Coast, make sure you enjoy other parts of the region.Since the weather forcast is showing a nice, sunny weather for the first weekend of June, we advise you to jump into the sea (make sure you don’t forget the sunscreen). You can also enjoy lovely bike rides along the Slovenian coast.
If you need more suggestions on how to have an enjoyable experience in Koper, Alma is here to help! Alma is virtual assistant for exploring Slovenia, inspired by Alma M. Karlin, who was world traveller and “influencer” of her time.
